"Silica sand" is used to obtain SiO2, which forms the framework of glass. Depending on the type of glass, 60% to 80% of the raw materials are silica sand. Impurities contained in silica sand can sometimes cause discoloration. "Calcium" is used together with sodium in soda-lime glass.
